Where are we going next?

On Sunday we finished our week of prayer by looking at a very brief overview of the prophetic foundations of the church. We considered how it would be easy for us to settle at our current size and location, but this is not the fulfilment of all God’s promises to the church. We looked at the time when the 2 ½ tribes of Israel chose to settle in the Transjordan area, rather than crossing over to the promised land (Numbers 32:1-5).

Vision - our walk of faith

On Sunday we stepped out of our series Father to the Fatherless to look at our vision. Using the analogy of a family walk we looked back at 3 significant signposts before looking forward. These signposts were three talks by visiting preachers given in the last 18 months or so:

Blessed are those whose hearts are fixed on Pilgrimage

This week was the second part of our vision and strategy talks, setting out what we feel God is speaking to us about as a church, who He is calling us to be and how we are seeking to live this out.  I spoke about five strands that we will be giving an emphasis in the coming months and years as we seek to take seriously the prophetic promises God has given us.  These strands, in no particular order, are;

Vision 2014 part 1

On Sunday, after Martyn and Judy shared their news, I spoke little about our vision and where God was calling us to be. We thought about the things we do know for certain and focused on those rather than speculate about the things we do not know. We are about regime change, from Satan’s world to the Kingdom of God.  We looked briefly at three passages from Acts: 2:42-42, 4:32-33 and 5:12-16 making the comment that a church of people full of passion for Jesus and compassion for others will be an extremely awesome, yet attractive place.

Jesus and the Kingdom of God

On Sunday we took a break from our "Heroes of Faith" series. Instead we focused on The Kingdom of God as expressed in Isaiah 61. We saw how the Kingdom of God is the key message of Jesus and the early church and remains our key message today. It is a message that proclaims the Kingdom of God including Salvation, Forgiveness, Peace, Joy, Comfort, Healing and God's presence. It is entered through Jesus' death on the cross and is lived out in the power of the Holy Spirit.

Taking stock

During the last week we have had our week of prayer. This started on Sunday 8th January with a look at the importance of prayer, and our biblical encouragement to persevere in it through the story of Jacob wrestling with God. Over five evenings we looked at Colossians 3:1 - 4:6 focusing on:
