Summer Series - Grace

Grace: Part two

This Sunday, we continued our mini series on Titus 2, focussing particularly on verse 11. We looked at the aspect of God's grace concerned with salvation but began by clarifying the definition of grace, not as abstract 'stuff', but an umbrella term for all of the undeserved, personal activity of God towards mankind. Here's a summary of what I spoke about:

- What grace saves us from, i.e. God's just anger against and the penalty for our sinful nature and choices which leads to death (Rom 1:18; 6:23). This included thinking about God's perfect holiness.

Grace: Part three

On Sunday, we looked at the third part of our series on grace: 'Grace Teaches Us', drawn from Titus 2:12.

We looked at the fact that grace is not just for bringing us to Christ, but for every day of our Christian lives.
As the book I recommended (The Discipline of Grace, Jerry Bridges) says, 'Your worst days are never so bad that you are beyond the reach of God's grace. And your best days are never so good that you are beyond the need of God's grace.'

We looked at:
 - what grace teaches us (what we are to say 'No' to; what we are to say 'Yes' to)

Grace: Part four

On Sunday we finished our current series where we have been looking at the grace of God from Titus 2:11-14.

This week we looked at how grace gives us hope for the future, with a particular focus on the first few words of vv.13 "waiting for the blessed hope".

Firstly we looked at how this blessed hope is "the completion of our salvation", then we examined how "waiting for" this blessed hope is an active thing, requiring us to do something.
