Where are we going next?

On Sunday we finished our week of prayer by looking at a very brief overview of the prophetic foundations of the church. We considered how it would be easy for us to settle at our current size and location, but this is not the fulfilment of all God’s promises to the church. We looked at the time when the 2 ½ tribes of Israel chose to settle in the Transjordan area, rather than crossing over to the promised land (Numbers 32:1-5). We contrasted this with the attitude of Caleb, who, although he had to wait a very long time, was determined to push into the whole of God’s promises to him rather than settle for the easy life (Joshua 14:6-12).

Following our prayer week we believe God is calling us to move to 2 services on a Sunday morning, even though that will be inconvenient for many of us. It is part of God’s plans to fulfil all of the promises He has given us. Much like when the cloud moved when the Israelites were travelling through the wilderness, we need to break camp and follow the Lord with all our hearts, convinced of His continued love for us and His leading and guiding of us.

For discussion:
  1. How have you been tempted to settle?
  2. As God is leading us forward in this move, what is the part you will play in fulfilling His plans?
  3. How can you encourage others who may be fearful or concerned about the changes God us leading to?
