Jacob blesses his sons

Bible verse:
Genesis 49

On Sunday morning we studied Genesis Chapter 49 where Jacob blesses his twelve sons. Studying this passage is great fun from a literary point of view but as well as enjoying the passage in its own right, I also wanted us to see how Jacob was caught up in God's sovereign plan for the redemption of the world and how he died in faith for what God had shown him from afar.

The challenge for us is that we are not just the beneficiaries of the salvation that God worked for us through Jesus Christ (who's earthly line is traced through David, Judah, Abraham and Adam) but we too are caught up in God's plan for the salvation of the world. God has chosen to do this through imperfect people (but justified by Jesus) like us by the building of his church; his glorious bride.

Small group questions:
Here are some suggested questions to help you on your way but do also think of your own. Be stretched, be challenged but above all have fun and worship him!

How can we be sure we remain actively caught up in God's purposes and avoid passivity?

What are the ways you are actively caught up in God's purposes both as a group and individually?
  • In the way we live our lives
  • through the proclamation of the Gospel
  • through our witness
  • by being a missional community

Why not use your questions to springboard into prayer for our city in your Witness time?
