Bible verse:
Galatians 5:16-26

As we looked again at Galatians 5:16-26 this week we saw that we bear “spiritual fruit” (v 22-23) when we are filled with the Holy Spirit, not as the result of a one-off experience but as an ongoing choice to turn to Christ. We discovered that trees do not bear fruit and are more likely to attract pests when they are starved of water or have not established their roots properly. In the same way we need to be saturated in the Holy Spirit to ensure that we develop Paul’s list of “fruit” and to ensure that we are properly “rooted” in Christ. This will lead us into deep ongoing relationship with the Father resulting in changed lives full of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

For discussion:

We noticed that Paul was writing to the gathered church and so we all have a role to play in encouraging one another to be full of the Holy Spirit all of the time. This week in your small groups why not read again this week’s passage along with Luke 11:9-13 and then pray for each other to be filled with the Holy Spirit. I for one long to be part of a community that can truly be described in Galatians 5:22-23 terms; let’s choose to follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives (v 25).
