Galatians 3:15-22

On Sunday we continued our series on Galatians by looking at Galatians 3:15-22. This is a passage that considers the nature of covenant and in it Paul is essentially demonstrating that when God gave the Law it was 430 years after he had made a covenant promise to Abraham. The coming of the Law did not invalidate the promise that was given to Abraham and his descendant, Jesus. The promise of eternal inheritance obtained by faith still stands. It can be tempting to look at the Law and decide from that what we think God must be like. But to really see what God is like we need to look at how He was before creation, how He demonstrated himself to Abraham in the promise He made and how He showed himself through Jesus. We then spent some time looking at the nature of the Father in those terms, because it was the Father who had made the promise of eternal inheritance in the first place. Here we quite clearly saw that He is a Father who loves. My encouragement at the end was to spend time this year getting to know the Father more clearly and experience His love more deeply.

For discussion:

This year, how can we grow in our knowledge and experience of the Father’s love?
