Bible verse:
Galatians 3:6-9

This week we continued our journey through Galatians (Chapter 3:6-9) and saw how Paul uses the example of Abraham to re-iterate the main thrust of his letter; we are made righteous by faith in Jesus alone.

I drew the following 2 points from this:

  • Faith in Jesus makes us righteous
  • Faith in Jesus leads to radical obedience

Here are some additional verses that I referred to that you may find helpful in your study of this passage:

  • Genesis 12:1-3
  • Genesis 15:1-6
  • You may like to read the account of Abraham’s life in Genesis chapters 12-25
  • Romans 4
For discussion:

Here are some questions you may like to consider personally, and in your small groups:

  • What stood out to you from the message or the passage?  How has this affected you?  Do you have any questions?
  • The Jewish Christians in Galatia felt they NEEDED to be circumcised to be accepted by God.  What do you feel you NEED to do to be accepted by God?  What is your circumcision?
  • I mentioned three benefits of being saved by faith in Jesus (Freedom, Acceptance & Belonging) this however is merely scratching the surface of the tip of the iceberg, consider these and think about what else you would add!
  • We now get to do things with God, out of a loving relationship with him.  How can we ensure this perspective and make sure we don’t slip into thinking we need to do certain things to be acceptable to God.  You could consider our culture and how we as Christians are called to live in the world but not be of it.
  • Is there anything that God has promised to you in the past that you need to have faith in and now practice radical obedience, like Abraham did with Isaac?
