Bible verse:
Ephesians 1:15-23

On Sunday we continued our series on Ephesians by looking at Ephesians 1:15-18.  We covered two main points:

  • Firstly, that we need to ask our Father to give us the Holy Spirit to enlighten the eyes of our hearts so that we would know the hope to which he has called us.
  • Secondly, we saw God’s love for the Church in v18 - that we would know “the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints” and asked the question, does our attitude match God’s towards the Church?

I spoke about how important it is to deal with pain from the past in order to live the life of joy and courage that is ours as we grow in the knowledge of the hope to which we have been called.

For discussion:

Here are some questions to help discussions in your small groups this week.  Please feel free to use some or all of them, or to think of some of your own:

1.     What spoke to you / encouraged you / challenged you from Sunday’s sermon?

2.     Read 1 Corinthians 2:6-16.  What does this teach us about the Holy Spirit’s role in helping us know the hope to which we have been called?

3.     What areas of your life do you need to have courage in?  How does knowing the hope we’ve been called to help?

4.     God considers us “his glorious inheritance”.  How does this affect the way we treat each other?
