Ruth 3

On Sunday we continued our series on Ruth looking at Ruth 3. We saw how this is essentially a love story and how God continued to work through the actions of the three main characters, Naomi, Ruth and Boaz to fulfil His purposes. We saw how Ruth and Boaz behaved in a totally righteous way, seeking to fulfil not just the strict requirements of the law, but also God’s intentions in the law that God’s people should know His provision and blessing. It was their righteous behaviour that led to their ultimate blessing. In application we thought about how God has always required those who follow Him to be wholehearted in their commitment to Him, even though that will often mean we have to deny our immediate desires and feelings.

For discussion:
  1. Why is God so concerned that His people should act righteously, not just in the area of relationships, but in all things?
  2. What advice would you give to someone who is finding it hard to overcome their own feelings and desires even though they know them to be unrighteous?
  3. Have you ever been in need of such advice? How have you been able to handle the situation?
